Report FAQ

Word of The Week - Testing Waters - I went a little bit out of my comfort zone last week. Among the many calls and e-mails, I tried two things I usually don’t.

I tested venturing into the area that I wasn’t familiar with. I looked around where I’m creating value in my life and found at least one so far that I can make use of. For a few years now I play a tabletop wargame. Since I like to craft my own things, I designed some terrain for it. I posted some photos of it into the Reddit community and have gotten some encouraging feedback. The thing is, that I have thought about it in the past but haven’t gotten to actually take the challenge on.

I also took the opportunity on a teambuilding event and talked to a few people about possible business opportunities. I have scheduled a meeting with one person and begun talks with the other. Whatever might come of it, I’m happy to have given it a shot.

Here’s a welcome realization: A balanced life takes work. There are areas that I neglect and some areas that I put more energy into than they would need. Namely, business and health aspects get too little attention (I’ve mentioned that in previous reports), social and growth aspects get more attention than they would need. I think I can rewire a little bit of the latter two in a way that they won’t suffer much but can benefit the other two immensely. I will need to be smart about it (but not too smart), to design it in a way that will stay enjoyable.

Lessons:
- Sometimes comfort zone limits you in ways you don’t even realize. In my case I thought reaching out to people will annoy them, and while sometimes this can be true, often time it isn’t. The thing is, that I didn’t know that this is the way I think about it.
- Whether what you make is good or not isn’t up to you to decide. You can have a good feeling about it but ultimately it’s up to the audience. I’ve heard that one so many times before, but testing it on my game terrain was something else. Thankfully, I already have this in mind for the bandproject when the time to validate comes.
- This is the second time I’m writing this report because the first time my computer lost power. Even in the most mundane cases, save your progress. Generally, this report did come out a bit better than the first one was, but not always will I have the luxury to write it out again.
