Logo update for Antibo d.o.o.

A friend of mine approached me with a humble request:

Can you maybe please vectorise our logo?

I didn’t need to think much to agree. I’ve known him for several years now and we’ve worked together at TEDxLjubljana.

He told me more about the context: It’s a small family business and the legacy of Antibo d.o.o. spans back several decades. The inspiration for their original logo comes from beehive structure and letter A. Seeing the challenge at hand, I offered him an option: Can I redesign the logo instead?

The Case

I was very much willing to respect the request of just redesigning the logo and I communicated that with Marko. The original logo has a certain charm to it and there is a very likely sentimental value involved as well. We wanted to discover, if there’s an ambition to also bring their logo in a more modern era design wise, or just technologically wise.

We agreed that probably the wisest option is to first just vectorise the existing one, since it’s not going to be just Marko’s call, but likely a whole family will be involved. We also agreed that if I come up with something good, creative and engaging, he isn’t going to stop me in the attempt to make something new.

Redesigning

Knowing the background of their logo, I wanted to keep the elements, but to go with a more modern look. I liked the idea of putting the elements together to create something new. The original had an elegant curve on the left side that formed the letter A, a hexagon representing the bee-hive structure, and the vertical line that connected the two.

The task proved to be in fact more challenging than I expected it to be. There were several different approaches I took on, and many of them are at least in the idea represented in the image below. The final version of the logo is hidden in the red-circled area.

In the end, the family picked the new version. I’m happy that they found the new version to bear the original meaning and adopt it.
